Without Enymes there’s no Life
We live in a culture where so much emphasis is placed on cooking foods… but at what cost…
44-EnzymesOf-course, cooking brings good things with it too… it’s not all bad. It softens and makes many foods much more digestible. ‘Digestion’ means ‘breaking down. When you are digesting food it means it’s being broken down into individual molecules preparing it to be ready to be assimilated into your body.
Chewing food well is a very important step in digestion. The smaller the pieces of food are when it reaches your stomach the easier it is digested.
Do you gulp your food?
I’ve seen many people who can’t seem to swallow their food quick enough. It’s like they are in a huge rush and the meal must be eaten in the shortest amount of time imaginable! I also know that some of these people have awful problems with digestion.
It stands to reason that chewing your food thoroughly before you swallow is a much more sensible thing to do. Chewing releases enzymes into your mouth in the saliva and these enzymes begin right away to break down certain elements of your food. Rush past this and you are severely preventing your digestion system from working as it should… and it will bring problems in time.
Become a mindful eater
So this is another really good reason for you to become a ‘mindful eater’… being mindful of how much you chew before swallowing. For heaven’s sake, put down the spoon or fork occasionally… sit back in your chair and enjoy the flavour and texture of food. No need to throw it down the hatch as if you’re starving!
Having enough enzymes is really very important. If you are experiencing any kind of digestive upset I would suggest you stop and think about some of the things I’m saying here. Take stock. See if something mentioned here is relevant to you and be ‘man enough’ to begin doing something about it.
If you are doing what I’m saying and still having problems, that would be a good time for you to consider a broad spectrum digestive enzyme supplement as it can’t hurt you. Seek further assistance if you need, but don’t put it off thinking ‘she’ll be right!’
How are you in the digestion department? What’s happening?
Didn’t need to read about microwaving.
Had a guilty enough feeling about using the microwave because of the convenience. I hereby promise myself to really cut down on it’s use.
I haven’t been able to prove it, but I did read about someone who boiled some water in the microwave. After it cooled, they used it to water a plant. If I remember correctly, the plant was dead within a week!
I think the only good use of a microwave is to use it to heat up beads in a heat pad!
Actually haven’t used one in years… that is why I can’t prove it!
We quit using our microwave about 18 months ago and it has been much easier than I thought. I was using it mostly to heat up my coffee after it cooled. Now I just use a small saucepan and it’s almost as quick!
Good for you Lisa! Yes, it doesn’t take much to get used to going without a microwave once you make up your mind to. It’s a great way to improve your nutritional input when you do.
