Module 3
The Importance of a Healthy Bowel
This is a very important lesson. You must attend to your digestive system otherwise it can lead to numerous other conditions you’d rather be without…
19-A-Healthy-BowelThere is a real problem with fast foods and foods that come in packets. As I said in the lesson, it’s easy to overeat nutrient deficient foods because it’s nutrients that ‘hit the sides’ and satisfy us.
There are so many benefits from adding more fibre to your diet that once you become used to it you’ll wonder why you didn’t do this earlier. The amount you need is about a minimum of 30 grams per day. Many of us are hardly existing on about 10 grams or less!
Now, if adding more fibre is something you realise you need to do, please heed the lesson and do it only gradually. More fibre… more water. That’s such an important combination. If you add more fibre but forget the water it will end up constipating you… and that’s not nice.
Fibre added through eating fruit and vegetables is not such as issue as they come ready-packed with their own juice etc. But if you endeavour to do it through grains or psyllium husks for example, drink water… or at least more fluid. Not tea or coffee because although they are mainly water they tend to draw water out of your system rather than add it in.
The foods that satisfy us and help us to feel full for longer, are… protein, fibre and fat. It’s good to try to always think of these three as being joined at the hip. If you eat one, eat the other two together with it. Even if you eat snacks throughout the day, make it a ‘triple treat’ experience.
Eating the protein with a piece of fruit is handy to slow down the absorption of sugar. This will keep your sugar levels where they need to be.
Let us know where you are up to in your fibre quest.
What do you feel works for you… or doesn’t work for that matter.
Love to hear from you concerning it.
Sadly Elvis died of severe constipation caused by poor diet and thousands of prescription drugs. An autopsy found a four month old stool in his body.
That’s sad Keith! It is believed that all disease starts in the bowel. It sure is something we need to be looking after well.
It’s very difficult to find organic produce on most vegetables in the supermarket or even at the local farmers market.
Oh I completely understand Eugenie! I guess it depends where you live but in my experience there are so many looking for it now that there are places that supply it. Our local supermarkets usually have a small spot, but more often it’s from farmers markets or stores out of town or city.
Sometimes I find ‘spray free’ and I’m happy to go with that. For example I know of a strawberry farm that is ‘spray free’ but they hold to all organic practices. This is because it takes seven years to be approved as organic.
Just do whatever you can, but outside of that, be very particular in washing both fruit and veggies. I will often add Cleaning Vinegar (White Vinegar) and Baking Soda (Bi Carb Soda) to a sink of water to help aid in bringing off sprays etc.
The problem can also be that the toxins are drawn up into the middle of the vegetable such as potatoes. You cannot wash that off.
