Do you even know what a Phytonutrient is?

Phytonutrients help to prevent disease and so much more… wow… big name, but what are they?

42-Phytonutrients

If you don’t bother with a variety of fruits and vegetables; you never eat legumes or beans and you can’t remember when you last ate some nuts… my, are you missing out!  Truly, look at the list of what they have the potential to do for you.

Playing around with herbs and spices, especially fresh ones, will add a lot more phytonutrients to your diet.

I love the rich colours they provide… look at the richness of that paw paw.  Hey, and what about those gorgeous colour carrots?  We allow ourselves to be so locked in to eating the same old thing.  When we think of carrots we naturally think – orange, but what about purple, white, pink and every colour inbetween.  I will always buy a bunch of coloured carrots when ever I find them.

I love to eat red cabbage… which is not really red, it’s purple.  Buy a small one next time you shop and simply add a bit of it in to your slaw or cooked cabbage.  It brings the food to life.

Become aware of the colours you are cooking or eating in a salad… check through to see if all colours are represented. If not, try to find something you can add in for colour the next time you shop.  The more you do of this kind of thing, the more phytonutrients you are picking up naturally in your food.  But it’s not only that because a meal looks so much more appealing if all the colours are represented.

Mind you, you don’t have to do it all in one meal of-course, that is, if you are conscious of what you are eating throughout the day.  Try to stop and think and choose something that completes the rainbow rather than doubling up with the same colour.  Do you understand what I mean?

Are you conscious of the colours you eat?  I’d love to hear.
