Healthy Fats to Enjoy

As you will see, there are quite a few healthy fats that our body absolutely loves…

25-Healthy-fats

All these fats and oils will bring health to you.  You need to try to eat as many as you can, often.  Don’t worry, they will not make you fat!

Just remember, not all are good to be used for cooking, so be careful with that.  This is because many oils break down after they reach their heat point.  That heat point is different for all of them.  Once they break down or smoke, they are no longer safe to use.  Don’t be tempted!

Chocolate – how we love it!

Don’t you love it that dark chocolate is in there with the rest of them.  Yum, yum.  I love that something that tastes so good actually helps to protect my body from free radicals which cause disease.

If you are not a fan of dark chocolate, that’s OK. You need to begin slowly to work your way there as milk chocolate does not have the same properties and well-being that dark chocolate has. Begin by having a piece of 70% cacao dark chocolate daily. As it becomes more acceptable to you, you can go up to an 85% cacao dark chocolate.

You know, it’s possible, in time, to happily eat a 90% cacao dark chocolate and love it!  It’s just a matter of training your taste buds because they are so used to the sugar filled milk chocolates that abound.

Train yourself to never eat those… you can do it!

Low-fat Dairy??

So many people go for low-fat dairy and truly, they are not doing themselves any favours.

If you are going to eat dairy, your body requires the fat of the cream.  It’s the ‘whole food’ with all the parts working together that your body recognises as food… as fuel.  Once you remove one of the parts, the rest is not received in the same manner as the whole.

Now I want you to be sensible about ‘whole foods’ and what is meant by it. It doesn’t mean that you have to eat the entire apricot, including the seed.

But do you know something… there are cultures that do eat the apricot seed along with the fruit and they are virtually cancer free.  But, I don’t want you choking on it.

I’m sure there are many more examples I could use, but suffice to say we should not be tampering with food to change it’s makeup.  You know what I mean.

Ha ha, I just tried to imagine eating a mango seed whole!

Do you understand what I’m saying here?  Some examples may come to your mind which makes you question…
please feel free to ask and I’ll try to answer. 🙂

    HI Marilyn,
I believe all you say about good fats.. I used to eat full fat dairy etc.. but a few months ago I had a pancreatitis attack.. a really bad one.
So it seems my body can’t handle fats that well and I have to be low fat.. how do I do that and have the good from the healthy fats my body needs?
Any thoughts would be helpful.. Thanks!

      Hi Mary,
Did they give you a diet plan to follow? It would be interesting to see it if they did.
You do need to be careful with the type and amount of fats you consume at this time.
It’s more than possible that as you begin to apply the things you are learning in this course, your body will begin to heal and therefore may be more able to deal with fats.
When it comes to using fats (of any kind) listen to your body. It will tell you if it approves or not!
