The Great Milk Debate

OK, let’s take a quick look at ‘The Great Debate’…

47-The-Milk-Debate

Many health professionals have differing views of the consumption of milk… some are very for it and some are very against.

To my way of thinking, I think the worst things about milk consumption is what they do to it after it leaves the cow. Homogenisation I think needs to be avoided at all costs as it destrous the fat content causing it to go from a ‘good’ fat to a ‘bad’ fat.

Pasteurisation is not so easy to avoid and it does rob your bones of calcium.  Wow, if ever there was a good reason not to drink it, that’s it!

At this stage in the game I really would encourage you to look for the Bega NSW milk called ‘Made by Cow’.  No, I’m not an affiliate and receive nothing for this suggestion.  At this point in time I have not even tasted it as it is not available in Tasmania.  But, when or if it does arrive here, I’ll certainly be giving it a try.

As for UHT milk… run as fast as you can!  Ultra High Temperature milk tastes terrible in my opinion.  The treatment of this milk actually changes the molecular structure and it can initiate an immune response. It is believed to possibly cause Leaky Gut.

It’s hard to talk about the goodness of dairy in a land where it’s against the law to buy the natural product.  As I see it, there are only a couple of options…

  1. Invest in a cow or go shares in a cow
  2. Look to alternative milks such as coconut or almond milk for example.

So, what do you do?

Are you familiar with Kalona brand milk? I have no idea if they have it in Australia or not. They do not homogenize and they have “low-temperature pasteurization. It is “full-fat” – in fact, the cream rises to the top and is delicious. We drink it and also buy their Heavy Cream to put in our coffee. Just wondered your thoughts on it if you’re familiar.

No, we don’t have that brand over here, at least, not as far as I’m aware.
But forgoing the homogenization is really important, and we do have that.
I’m not aware of any low-temperature pasteurization neither… except I have heard of a pasteurization up on the mainland that use cold instead of hot, which is an interesting concept.
