Get Creative – Make Substitutions!

It’s not about eliminating foods or drinks from our diet… it’s about making wiser choices.  There is always a choice.

It’s a matter of eating this instead of that!

There are some simple things you can do to vastly reduce the amount of refined sugar in your diet… but I’ll allow the PDF to explain…

16-Substitutions

Did you know there were so many different names for ‘added sugar’?  You just about have to be a walking dictionary to try and remember all of them.

Not all of them are bad.  For example, ‘honey’ can be a very healthy addition in moderation… as long as it’s genuine raw honey.  But the point of the exercise is to show there are many different names, and together, they all add up.

I was listening to someone on a video only this morning who was saying that many toddler’s formulas are 50% sugar. You can guarantee that in the ingredient’s list it doesn’t say that.  It would be the combination of all the different sugar ingredients that would add up to 50%.  What hope have you got if you are feeding your child that?  Tough times ahead!

By clean-sweeping processed foods you cut your daily intake down enormously.  That’s easy.

And the good thing is… there are some sweeteners you can use such as explained in slides 7 and 8.  Used in moderation they can take care of any sweet tooth hanging around, and provide you with other nutrients that your body is crying out for.

Some say you should totally eliminate all sugar from your diet, but I don’t necessarily agree.  Not totally.  ‘Sweet’ is one of the taste sensations we are meant to enjoy: saltiness, bitterness, sourness, savoury or umami, & sweetness.  This means sweet is still good.  In excess lieth the problem.

Have you begun to cut down on your sugar intake?
If so, what is it you have been doing?
What has been working for you?
