The Pros and Cons of Milk – Raw versus Pasteurised or Homogenised

This is a really big issue, so let’s see what we can make of it…

46-Pros-and-cons-of-Milk

Have you been aware of what is really in conventional milk?  How can it be that they can inject all these drugs into the poor cow and then tell us it’s safe to drink?  To me it defies all logic!

There was a time early in my marriage (it feels like it’s in another life!!) that I had a cow.  There is something I can tell you for sure… and that is they are not just ‘some animal’ that doesn’t think too much, or have feelings.  Many people say ‘oh it’s just a cow’ as if it is lacking in intelligence.

Let me share a little story…

We had planted a certain crop for the cow.  I say ‘certain crop’ because I can’t remember what it was.  The cow couldn’t get to that crop but obviously knew that it was something she’d really like to wrap her tongue around.

One day I was there with a friend and decided to pick a little to give to the cow, but on closer examination discovered that it had rust on it.  I hesitated, as something said to me that it may not be good for her.

But… the cow was standing there watching me and was fully expecting to receive some of this crop.  I threw the handful I had picked down on the ground and then picked some normal grass to give to her.  I walked over and was met by a cow shaking its head furiously at me.  She was quite angry! She had never treated me this way before.

It took a good month for her to forgive me!

It turned out that for a good month she didn’t forgive me!  I couldn’t go near her as she did not forget!  Eventually she found it in her heart to forgive me and things went back to normal, but she never did receive any of that crop as it was ploughed back under.

Then some time later our lives took a turn and we could no longer keep the cow.  We found someone nearby who was happy to take her but they told us that she wouldn’t eat and eventually died.  They explained how the cow had obviously pined so much for us that it preferred to die rather than continue life without us.

I was devastated when I heard this… oh dear, what had we done!

I’ve told you all this to give you a little idea of the intelligence of the animals that are treated so inhumanely in these factory farms.  They know.  These poor animals understand a whole lot more than they are given credit for.  Their calves are taken away as if it doesn’t have any affect.  It has a huge affect.  All this for the sake of producing more milk.  It’s a terrible, terrible situation and I have to stop writing about it because it breaks my heart.

Lucky people have their own cow…

Take a moment to really study the differences between organic raw and the pasteurized versions and ask yourself which you would prefer.  Live milk or dead milk?  Yikes! It doesn’t take too much to work out does it?  And they wonder why there are so many digestive problems and allergic reactions.  It’s not rocket science.

But try to buy raw milk here in Australia… you’d think it contained arsenic or something! Many of us country folk were brought up on milk straight from the cow.  Healthy cows… the kind that wandered through the pastures and came when you called.  They were wonderful days full of very happy memories.

What is your experience in the world of dairy land?

Had to milk the cow before I went to school. Loved warm milk. Afterwards the cream on top was great.

Yes, I know what you mean. They are wonderful animals to boot. Sometimes when we are driving around and see a group of cattle, I stop and go over to the fence to say hello. The love it! They all gradually come and gather around just over the fence. Obviously enjoy me talking with them… I guess they don’t get much of it!
