If you really wish to be as healthy as possible, you have no choice but to choose the safest foods to eat. The list below is very “normal” really, but the question is… are we eating them?
Eating these foods simply by making better choices at the market place, should automatically help us to be healthy. Unfortunately these days we can’t just take things for granted, we need to be very careful.
Gradually replace with these safer foods to eat:
Fruit and Vegetables
- Definitely not genetically modified
- No weed killers such as Roundup
- Don’t buy loose leaf greens that have been packaged (contains extra chemicals you don’t want)
- Choose organic whenever possible
- Spray free is also a good option
- Locally grown as a preference, excepting frozen goods where it’s not as important.
- Wash all vegetables well
- Preferably, consider growing your own so you really do know what you are getting!
Meat
- Try to make sure it is grass fed & pastured … and not grain fed
- Organic is definitely good as you don’t need the growth hormones
Poultry & Eggs
- Organic if possible
- Free-range in the true sense of the word! Many ‘free-range chickens never see the outside world.
- No growth hormones
- Consider, if possible, owning a few of your own hens… the taste is amazing!
Fish
- Fresh ocean/river/lake caught – not farmed
- Smaller types rather than large because of toxins like mercury. Remember that large fish each smaller fish and so on… thus there is an accumulation of mercury in large fish
Dairy
- Raw milk if possible (straight from the cow)
- Non-homogenized is a better choice than homogenized
- Try to source milk/cheese/yogurt from grass-fed pastured cows
- Own a cow or goat
- Go shares in a cow or goat
- OR… try going “dairy free” with lots of nut milks available… but definitely not soy (interferes with your hormones).
Drinks
- Natural – nothing artificial. Many concoctions can be found in the supermarket,, but please stick to your own combinations so you know what they contain.
Processed Foods
- Leave them gracing the supermarket shelves!
Herbs and Spices
- Organic where possible
- Consider growing at least some of your own, it’s fun and rewarding… and taste great!
These are definitely the choices made by the savvy purchaser. Gradually switch over to a safer food option.
I know you can’t do this all at once, not many can, but each shopping day try to source out at least one item to buy a better quality. You will soon begin to notice it in the taste… maybe not always, but often… wonderful. Begin now to check out the area you live in… where you can buy many of these things straight from the farm or from a farmer’s market.
Get online… find out who delivers organic product to your door. Talk to everyone you know, it’s surprising who knows what. Go on, you’ll have a lot of fun doing this and it will bring you so much closer to your desired result just because of what you are “not eating”… pesticides, hormones, antibiotics etc etc etc. I had to do it again within the last 12 months looking for the safest foods to eat as I had moved states… gotta start all over again when you do that… but at least you know what you are looking for.
As you gradually change to these safer foods to eat, you may well find that you have more energy and a better outlook on life. It’s so worth it!

I’ve been trying to buy raw milk but it seems very hard. I was brought up on milk on the farm and it never made me sick. Really don’t understand what all the fuss is about or why they process it they way they do. Buying it seems to be cloak and dagger stuff. Why?
Yes I understand what you are saying Bobby. Here in Australia it’s virtually impossible to buy raw milk anywhere… in fact, it’s against the law. The only way to get it is to own your own animal and that’s not always possible of-course. Apparently they say we are at risk of serious illness possibly death if we drink raw milk. What I find so queer is what about all the people who are enduring many health problems because they are consuming pasteurized milk which they believe they need to have to give them strong bones? The everyday food called raw milk is so much safer than all the countless drugs people are subjected to on a daily basis, but a few people die from something they suspect was caused because the milk was raw and they ban it! I can’t fathom the reasoning personally.
How do you know if the milk you buy is raw?
Trust me, if it’s raw I’m absolutely sure it would say so. Most probably be more expensive too… that’s if you live in an area where you are allowed to buy it.
I get confused with what’s natural and what’s not…
A true natural product will only have maybe a couple of ingredients. Many of the boxes and packages shout out that they are natural but when you turn them over to look at the ingredients you find there is a whole list of ingredients mentioned. I wouldn’t buy that.
How do Iknow when its gen modified?
I believe that in America they have stopped saying whether a food is GMO or not. I think it’s most probably the same here in Australia. Buying commercial food is a bit of a mine field isn’t it. Try to go to a farmer’s market where the food would be of higher quality.
Thank you for this list – it really helps me
I’m happy about that! Thank you for mentioning it.
I think this info makes sense as I tried to change my eating habits all at once and it didnt work. Thx for helpful info.
Hi Michael… yes maybe most of us have tried to do this but ended up failing. I do think it’s better to establish better habits more gradually so they become more apart of your routine. Thanks for sharing!
Cool info!
Thank you!
Hello. Thx writing this info to help us.
You’re welcome Rigel! I hope it helps many people to know what are better choices they can make.
Great content! Super high-quality! Keep it up! 🙂
Thank you!
I’m always interested in the safest foods to eat… thank you for making it easy for me.
No problems… happy to assist!
I like the concept of ‘making better choices’… as a single guy, it helps me. I didnt realise there was so much stuff in our foodline!
Yes, it’s a complete eye-opener and most people don’t seem to have any idea. I’m happy that something I’ve done has made it easier for you Michael!
Is tinned salmon safe?
That’s a great question! If it’s not farmed fish and is actually wild-caught, that’s good. If the tin is not lined with plastic is another thing to look for.
Many times I cannot find organic vegetables in our supermarket. I mean, there is sometimes a little range, but it doesn’t stay there long. I don’t know what to do.
Roz, it can be a problem can’t it. Look around for a farmer’s market usually held on a Saturday. They have a large supply of foods that are in season, and often they are organic.
I made the change to better foods about 3 years ago and i’ve found my health to really improve. I think it’s good that you put out information to encourage people how to do this.
Thank you Boris because you also encourage me. I’m so happy to hear you’ve had such a marvellous result. Thank you.
Love the health toolkit. Really helps me.
Hey that’s great to hear. You might like to share some of your experiences sometime. Thanks.
This list really helps me make some good decisions. Just wanted to say thank you.
Hi George… happy it helps you.
I can’t seem to find raw cow’s milk. Where do you get it?
That’s a hard one for me to answer James as I don’t know where you live. In Australia, unless you own your own cow, or have got shares in a cow with someone else, it’s virtually impossible to receive raw cow’s milk. It’s a crying shame as it really is so good for you. I believe in Europe you can get it from a vending machine, although I don’t know this for certain. Wouldn’t that be great???
I’ve been thinking about this. I’m going to try it as I want to look after my health. NO-one else does.
I presume you mean that no-one else is looking out for your health unless you do. That’s about how it is. I encourage you to be more mindful of the things you eat and your body will thank you.
Someone told me to only consume drinks I make at home myself because there are many things added that are not good for us. Is this true?
Pretty much William! You must read the ingredients carefully on whatever you go to purchase as manufacturers will slip inn all kinds of things. It doesn’t pay to be unaware.
How do you know when a fish is farmed?
Depending upon where we live, it’s not always easy to ascertain. Fish shops should be able to tell you. Reading on tins will often enlighten you. Here in Tasmania, the only Salmon you can buy has been farmed… that is… unless you buy wild-caught Salmon in tins from places such as Alaska. I think you will become more aware as you continue to ask questions and read, read, read!
Merely wanted to state I am just relieved that i happened on the site!
I’m happy too. 🙂
thank you for all your great info, Marilyn! May God bless you, dear one!
